Roono organizes your work into five dedicated modes within a single window: Write, Canvas, Timeline, Studio, and Agent. You can switch between them instantaneously without opening auxiliary windows.
The Five Modes
Each mode is tailored to a distinct phase of the writing and investigative craft. ⌘1 through ⌘4 switch Write, Canvas, Timeline, and Studio. ⌘J opens Agent and returns to the previous writing mode.
Write: Focused Prose
The primary writing sanctuary. TextKit 2 speed, serif-first typography (Newsreader default), typewriter scrolling, and inline evidence badges that anchor proof directly to sentences.
Canvas: Research Board
An infinite corkboard for pinning offline web clips, interview audio cards, photographs, character sheets, and evidence cards. Connect cards with threads and draft side-by-side using 'Write from Board'.
Timeline: Version Tracks
Every save is recorded as an immutable Moment. Branch freely from any prior moment to test alternative chapter directions, and merge branches with ⌘⇧M.
Studio: Audio & Quotes
Record or import interviews and audio notes. Roono runs on-device transcription with speaker labels. Press Enter on any quote to insert it into your draft with a live ♪mm:ss audio link.
Agent: BYO-AI Terminal
A native PTY terminal running your official CLI tools (Claude Code, Antigravity agy, Codex, Devin). Powered by the Roono MCP server, agents propose branches and diff cards without overwriting your manuscript.
