The Kinnn accessibility

Reviewed 2026-10-15

The Kinnn shows the people you pick on one map, with places, check-ins, trips, chat and SOS. Every screen works with VoiceOver, Voice Control and the largest text sizes on iPhone and iPad, and every status is written in words, not shown by colour alone.

Common tasks we test

A feature is marked supported only when all of these work with it on that device.

  • First launch, entering a name and choosing location access
  • Reading who is where in the people list
  • Opening a person for battery, last update, distance and today's history
  • Sending I'm OK
  • Sending and cancelling an SOS
  • Adding a place and choosing who gets alerts
  • Chatting with a circle and sharing a trip
  • Inviting someone with a link or QR code, and joining from a link
  • Pausing, approximate location, history length and deleting your data

How it works

VoiceOver and Voice Control

Each person is read as one item, such as "Mia, at School since 8:12, battery 64 percent". Buttons carry the names shown on screen. SOS needs a three-second hold on screen; VoiceOver users get a Send SOS action that asks to confirm, so it cannot be sent by accident. Banners, such as a share ending, are read aloud.

Larger Text

All text follows the system size up to the largest accessibility sizes. People rows, place cards, stats and choice buttons stack instead of cutting words, and the SOS screen scrolls. Map pins and avatar initials stay a fixed size; the full name and status always sit next to them in the list.

Colour, contrast and dark

Every text colour in the Meadow, Coral and Ocean themes, light and Night, is tested to reach at least 4.5:1 on every surface. Status is written out ("Paused", "Battery low", "SOS"), never shown by a colour alone. Night follows the system dark mode.

Motion

With Reduce Motion on, the map jumps instead of gliding, sheets and banners fade instead of sliding, and the check-in ring and pulse do not animate.
